Do your best to keep these accounts current and below 10%. I hope the Cap1 card you closed was the more recent one but even if not I see where you are coming from. Very good though that you did not lose the credit limit there, nice. It is important to try to keep your oldest card, so make that one a good one.
Salute you need to cancel as soon as you are able to incorporate that credit limit somewhere else... or now if you can... yuk!
Good on HH. Before combining cards always see if you can get a CLI on both without a hard INQ (or with one if you can take the hit) to maximize the deal.
Back to Cap1, you can call them to see if they will waive AFs but they know where you are at and might not. Once you are in better position.... they certainly will waive it for the year if you demand it by threatening to close the card. They should be giving you better increases though but they only do so if you don't have any oopsies with them. Have you called them lately to see if they will CLI?
Are you getting any pre-approved offers in the mail? In a nutshell, you really need to wait until you do more repair work. Honestly it might not even be 2 months or so before you can get a better card like maybe the WaMu I'm touting lately. Then you can start thinking about a store card and whatnot. Applying now is only going to give you denials or cards that in a year you say 'what was I thinking' because it's not working for you.
