Credit Inquires

I wrote to TU about some unrecognized credit inquiries to my account and their reply was that just about anyone could access my account without my permission for the following reasons:

“Credit information may be requested only for the following permissible purposes:  credit transactions (even if not initiated by me?), employment consideration, collections, insurance underwriting, govt. licensing, rental dwelling, court order.”

TU suggested I contact the source but not sure how to do this or what it would accomplish.  Since I have experienced none of the above, I can only assume it was a credit transaction but how can they do this without my permission?   I find this hard to believe but very scary.  Anyone have any idea how to stop this?

Re: Credit Inquires

Were they hard or soft inquiries? Soft inquiries do not affect your score, only you see them. Hard inquiries do affect your score, however you had to give approval for these companies to pull your report.

It should list who pulled your credit and their contact information. Contact them and find out why if you do not have dealings with them. If its a CA, they should have a recording when their phone picks up saying "they are attempting to collect a debt blah blah blah", just hang up. Or if no recording and they answer just ask what kind of business they are without giving your information. Block your number too. You can also google and try to find them.

There is a non-authorized inquiry letter here to send out to those who do pull hard without pp if this is the case. Don't to scare you, but you might be subject of identity fraud, especially if these are for credit transactions and you don't know them. So don't ignore them, investigate...you might save yourself early.

As the other person asked, are these hard or soft pulls?
