Credit Karma question

I am fairly new to the credit world. I have Cap 1, Kohls and Discover card. I have had my oldest card for four or five months. I have one Transunion inquiry and six on Equifax. I do not even have a Fico score yet. I have been in the garden for rtwo months. Can anyone tell me how long I should garden and what my next move should be? On Credit Karma its saying the my chances are very good on getting the quick Silver card and Amex Everyday card. I just need some advice on what to do.

Re: Credit Karma question

When they say your chances are very good on Credit Karma are they right?

Re: Credit Karma question

Credit Karma makes their money from reffering people to apply for those cards. It's a crapshoot because I've personally have had "low chances" approved, and a long time ago "high chance" denied. Plus they seem not to even pay attention to the accounts that you already have, thus recommending them over and over.

Re: Credit Karma question

Credit Karma, is mainly used for advertising and illustration purposes, no real way of knowing your approval odds without knowing your fico score, history, etc.. Although that does not mean you can't be approved for eiether one.

Re: Credit Karma question

CK said I had a very good chance at getting some cards but was denied 2 out 4 tries.  Denied Discover It & BOA...Appove Chase Freedom & Quicksilver, so it was 50/50 for me.

This. CK keeps offering me DiscoverIT, Chase Freedom and AMEX BCE even though they are all on my CK report. If you're trying to gauge your likelihood of being approved for a card, go directly to the the lenders pre-qual site rather than relying on CK for anything other than an overview of your current accounts.

Re: Credit Karma question

Credit Karma...I give them props for getting me even looking at my credit.... But how in the bloody heck, can they say Approval Odds for Amex VERY GOOD when Credit Karma only shows your Transunion and Equifax, when AMEX uses Experian!!!!  But wait.....theres more.... everytime I have seen Very Good and appd for me or a family member, it has always been approved. Strange....

Can you see any of your scores from your other cards? I know discover usually shows a fake score on their bills...  Your discover card, right now, can earn you 5 pct in rotating cats, but they will match that in 12 months, so its really 10. Plus... if you call them, and ask for 0% on new purchases, they will probably give you that.

Have you requested a credit limit increase from capital one or discover? definitely get on discover and do that. They are handing out CLIs like crazy...But if I were you, i would collaborate here with some of the higher ups and see what capital one card you could product change to after a CLI. You really shouldn't need multiple cap1 cards...if you are a traveler the venture card is ok.

That Amex Everyday card to me, is a flat out joke. The point earning on it is not that great. I don't even know what it is, its that bad.something like 1.2% on all purchases, and only 2.4% at grocery stores. The Amex to get is the Blue Cash Everyday Preferred as it yields 6% on groceries. Basically if you spend over $55 a week on groceries, you need that card.

TLDR: You probably need to wait a little longer before adding cards. Maybe another 7 months. When you have hit the 6 month mark on any cards, request credit limit increases if it is a soft pull only (discover/cap1 not sure aboutkohls)...

But if you insist on trying, If it is good, try for the Amex, maybe you can product change it to BCEDP in 6mos like I am going to try to do. If you think your credit is good/excellent, then maybe you could apply for multiple Amex products, but use different web browsers, and try to do them in rapid succession. Looks like your best bet would be to app for blue cash everyday preferred, then the amex everyday. If you get approved for the first, then you are fine. But you could get 7-10 day messages for both.

Your best chances of success here with such a short age, are to request credit limit increases wherever possible, to decrease your utilization, and show other creditors you can handle higher limit cards.

American Express does combine credit pulls, here are the rules:

  • They’ll allow a maximum of one credit card application per day, doesn’t seem to be a limit on charge cards.
  • All cards need to be approved in the same day, otherwise multiple pulls will be done (e.g sometimes when you call they’ll say that the application will be reviewed in a few days time. When it’s reviewed another hard pull will be automatically done. You should be able to cancel the second application when doing this if you want to avoid the hard pull).
  • Usually will be denied on auto approval, you’ll need to call reconsideration.
    • When calling reconsideration only ask for approval for one card at a time.
    • You’ll need a valid reason as to why you want each card
  • Representatives will often state the system allows only one per day, which is why you only want to deal with one card per call. It’s not hard coded into the system to allow only one approval per day, so just hang up and call again if you have this issue.
  • Can mix personal and business applications and it should only result in one pull"
