Credit Karma

I wanted to use a free credit scoring site so I chose Credit Karma. Wow was I wrong. Been busting my ass to get my credit up. I started this after getting a pre approval for a mortage and my score from the lender was 640. This was back in early March. I decided to get rid of things I didn't need and pay off debt. Now I only have $1200 in credit card debt. I had a truck and the fuel pump was starting to go out of it. Tranny was shifting hard and when it rained the windshield would leak alittle bit of water. I owed $11,000 on the truck. Well 2 days ago I had a very expensive oil change. Went to the dealer to get my oil changed, as I didn't have alot of time to get it done myself due to my dad dying and his viewing was yesterday and funeral is today. When the oil was getting changed, I went out and looked at new trucks. Saleswoman came out and talked to me and I asked her what the rebate was. $4500 off a new truck. Not bad I told her. The truck i was looking at was a $39000 truck. Told her I get the GM discount also. She was like woah. That's like another $5,000 off. I told her I knew what a trade in of mine was worth and I wanted that amount. She agreed to that price. So I told her I want to drive it and she can start the paper work. Drove it and came back with a smile on my face. Loved the truck. Told her I would take it. I left the dealer in the new truck as they were doing the loan work. Spent some time with family and friends that was coming over to my parents house. I got a call from them later and said I can come back today or tomorrow to sign the loan papers. I got on Credit Karma when I got home and score was 694. I thought that's not to bad. Yesterday morning I went to the dealer to sign the paperwork and told the saleswoman I want to know my credit score. She said 735 Transunion pulled. Wow I'm excited that my score is that high now. Now I won't mess with Credit Karma and just buy it from MyFico.

Re: Credit Karma

It's a beauty.  Did they make you pay for the oil change?

Yep, CK has my hubby about 100 points lower than his TU!

Congrats

Re: Credit Karma

Nope.....I told them since I'm buying a new truck I'm not paying for the oil change. Saleswoman was like np I'll take care of that. I also got a free oil change and car wash for my new truck. The dealer is under new ownership and is trying to get the customers back after the previous owners screwed up the dealership. One of the best dealerships I've ever had to work with.

Re: Credit Karma

Also, realize that the score they gave you was most likely an auto-enhanced score, which may be different than your normal FICO. Either way, FAKO's are pretty much useless. They make ynou feel better when they go up, that's about it.

Re: Credit Karma

The score you get from dealership is most likely an auto-enhanced variant of FICO. Meaning it place more weight on your prior auto loan history. It'll be a different score (with different score range) compared to myFICO score.

Re: Credit Karma

Congrats on the vehicle.  I use Credit Karma just as a monitoring service more than anything.  Just to make sure things are the way they should be.  The score I could care less about, since only FICO counts (or auto enhanced FICO in your case).

Starting Score: 583 EQ, 612 EX, 569 TU
Current Score: 658 EQ, 648 EX, 618 TU
Goal Score: 720 EQ, 720 EX, 720 TU
