Credit Report Questions

I just recently obtained my credit report. I have some items still on my credit report that have been paid off at the beginning of the year. I would like to know who I need contact to have these items removed. Would I need to contact the credit card companies, the credit reporting companies, or both?

Even paid-off, closed accounts stay on your reports for 10 years, unless you are able to get them removed, which isn't easy. Any negatives on them go away after 7, and then you have the remaining three years of clean history.
