So a recent credit report pull from Experian (thank you AmEx), revealed that Experian has no record of my present auto loan & 1 of my credit cards, both issued through a credit union almost 1 year ago. I asked a loan officer (and friend) at the CU why Experian has no records of them, and she said the CU only is contracted to report to TransUnion, and said if there was a form I could get from Experian to report my loan she happily would fill it out. After a few kicks around the block through the Experian phone system, I find out that there's no way the CU can do a one-off report, and that the CU would have to report their entire loan portfolio to Experian.
Have I been fed a line by Experian? I know there's no mandate requiring a creditor to report a loan to all CRAs, but I really would like my Auto Loan & CC to be reported as they're a year old, in good standing, and frankly would noticeably help my credit history .
It seems common on my credit that Experien isn't the one that is reported to as diligently as TU and EQ. For me this is GREAT because less negatives on EX. However, I betcha for others that EX gets everything. YMMV for sure.
The credit union would need to set up an account with Experian in order to report. There is not a manual way of doing this.
Maybe if you offered to pay all fees necessary for them to register with the CRA, they might reconsider!
It is their option not to report, and consumers dont have reporting agreements on their own accounts.
That sounds like a step farther than I'd like to take. mostly because it sounds notably expensive.
