I thought credit unions didn't report. Is this true? Unfortunately mine did, and I got the rejection letter today for a late in 2005.
Should I keep bugging them? They said it's against the law......blah blah. But is that true? I'm new at all this....please forgive all the questions.
CUs report.
Keep sending them GW letters. It is not illegal. By law, they must report accurately. But if they adjust their own records first, then technically, they are reporting accurate information (by reporting no lates). Keep bugging them. Try sending to the Pres/CEO of the CU too. Be persistent but friendly.

What is the "rejection" letter keeping you from acquiring? A checking or savings account? Credit card? Auto loan? Do you have a relationship with the CU?
Before you "bug" the CU, it would benefit you get current copies of your credit reports. Since you don't mention wanting a score, you can pull your reports from freecreditreport.com. Compare them side by side for errors, "baddies" (lates, charge offs, collections, liens, judgements). Also, you'll need these reports if you have medical collections.
If you want your FICO scores, of course, you'll have to pull here as well. Google "myfico discount codes" to save up to 20%.
Additionally, I would also suggest getting your free copy of the Chexsystem report that is available to you. If you've made banking missteps you may find you need to rectify things in order to open that CU account. An annual free copy is available through their website.
Once you know the lay of your credit-land, you'll be in a position to try and build/rebuild a relationship with the CU rather than pestering them. Win-win.
atlast....

I'd suggest annualcreditreport.com for your free reports. Freecreditreport.com charges for all 3 (plus they are run by EX).

Thanks, Ilecs. Yep, my fingers were on autopilot, annualcreditreport.com is the place.
Sorry.
atlast....still recuperating from general anesthesia (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)
I already have my reports and scores. I want to "clean up" my reports. (as do many of us on here). I want a decent interest rate on a car loan this time next year. Or maybe refinance my home after I divorce. I 'd like to look as good as I can.
I did get a collection removed last week... Just about 4 more lates and that is it.
My scores with EQ 591 TU 624 I don't have EX.
Does it really show on your credit report if you have something owed to checksystems?
I didn't think so..I had a couple that I made good on but I don't think I ever paid the fee associated with them and just don/t write checks at those stores and they never show up on any of my 3 credit reports
