Credit card simulation

The site is telling me that if i get a credit card that it will boost my scrore by 30-40 points. I've not had a credit card in over 10 years thinking it was best not to have one and only used my debit card. My concern is that i'm trying my best to buy a house right now and i'm concerned that getting a card during this process will hurt me. I saw something about a credit card trick to keep from pulling my credit but i'm not sure if that is legit. Any and all advice is GREATLY appreciated!

Re: Credit card simulation

Don't listen to simulators.  They can be very misleading.

Everyone that cares about their credit health should have at least 1 credit card, preferably 3.  This should be your goal eventually.  How soon are you planning on applying for a mortgage?  If it's soon, it's probably not in your best interest to apply for a card now.  If it's a year from now, I'd apply for a card right away and start working on that year of positive payment history.
