It's definitely protocol for them to try and sell you a half price membership upon cancellation. Sounds like you got a CS rep that was either poorly trained or simply felt like not following the script
Well, we'll see how it goes later this year; when I come out of my gardening phase I'll either sign up with them again or maybe myFICO itself. If I try CCT again I may be able to take a half-price membership (as I said, I'm not sure I'd have accepted the offer in any case this time around).

OK, y'all convinced me to give CCT a try. I'm not a fan of paying to get my personal info, especially with so many free scores from CCs and CK, etc. But:
1) The only free FICOs I get are based on TU, and
2) I filed BK7 in Sept 2010, and the 7 derog accounts, most with late payments, are falling off now through August. I got TU to early exclude them all (except of course the BK public record on until 9/2020) and my TU FICO jumped from 677 to 720. The CCT FICOs for EQ & EX were informative - they're both still mired at 688, with EQ still reporting 2 BK derog accounts with lates, while good old EX still reports 5. I disputed the 2 with EQ as "this account is too old to be reported", and am optimistic. I disputed the 5 with EX with the same reason, but I've never had any luck disputing with EX. After discharge EX had several accounts reporting 60-90 date lates after I had filed BK, so I disputed those as "reporting late payment is an attempt to collect a debt under the jurisdiction of a BK court". EX responded with "lender verified account as accurate".
No way I'll pay $30/mo. for scores, but I might go for the 50% discount when cancelling for the next couple of months as all the derog accounts fall off EQ & EX.
The $30/month fee was the showstopper for me too; I couldn't really justify it when I'm not actively working on apps or such. I expect I'll sign up again in the fall when I'm ready to come out of the garden, and maybe shop around for a deal on my three reports at that time as well.
Credit Karma (CK) scores are useless. You should never rely on them, even if they seem correct. I use CK for the other info it offers but I never base an app on what scores it shows.
As for CCT, you don't have to pay the $30 fee. Ever. Enroll, pay the $1. Wait until the day it says you can refresh your scores to cancel it. Cancel it and it will let you refresh once a day for about 4-5 days after that. Then it will tell you you are eligible for the $1 offer again. $4 a month. No need to pay the $30. Just be sure to set a reminder to cancel it before the end of the 7th day after enrolling. 4 reminders a month, seems worth it to get current scores, CORRECT scores to boot, for a mere $4 a month.

Well, I wouldn't call CK scores "useless", but never rely on them is good advice. And they are being really wierd for me now. I got TU to early exclude all 7 derog accounts w/lates included in my 2010 BK7, and my CK TU Vantage score cratered from 722 to 700, while my FICO TU score jumped from 677 to 720.
And I wouild say that CK is by far the best free credit score/report site. I have a credit.com account for the only free EX score service I could get and that's all it's good for, they push Lexington Law constantly for "credit repair" scam, and try to get you to buy reports. The worst in my opinion is creditsesame.com, I had an account with them when they gave you EX scores, but was happy to dump them when they switched to TU - CK does a far better job.
Thanks for the tips on CCT, I joined thios morning and did put a reminder in my Outlook calendar to cxl Friday. My reaction to $30/mo, $360 per year for credit scores??? What's in that pipe you're smoking? But it looks like folks in the know get around that.

It depends on what you are using your CK scores for. If you are using it to determine when to app, they are indeed useless. Now, that being said, I use them to see the up or down trend I can expect to see on CCT on my next update. But, as you have attested, it is not even accurate for that. CK is about as useful as Crapital One's Credit Wise. Informational, yes, but not to be relied upon when apping. I filed CH7 back in 01 and it dropped of in 2010. Your scores will rebound a lot when they finally drop the lates. When something like that falls off mine, CK always takes a dip and then upticks but not enough to overcome the drop. That VantageScore is very confusing. Andyeah that $360 a year is rediculous. Even when cut in half. It should be free.
