Need a little help here guys. Been requesting a CLI from Capital One for months now and every time the denial letter reason I get back is "credit bureau information missing or unavailable." At first Cap One told me this was a problem with my TransUnion report, but after contacting TU and them telling me everything was fine with it and me calling Cap One back, they said no the problem is with my Equifax report? What could this problem be and why would a creditor be unable to access the report? They gave me an 800 number to call (800-685-1111) but it is all automated; I can't figure out how to talk to a human being from Equifax. Can anyone perhaps shed some light on what this issue could be, and what the quickest means of resolving it is? Thank you.
There's no freeze on your EQ or fraud alert?
It is unclear as to whether they could not obtain a report, or whether they obtained a report, but found certain information lacking.......
If they did obtain a copy from the CRA, then their denail letter was required to have disclosed as such, and notified you of yout right to send a copy of the denial letter to theat CRA within 90 days, and receive a free copy of your credit report from that CRA.
Did any of their denial letters state they used a credit report in their decision making?
To my knowledge there is no freeze or fraud alert... not sure how I'd really check that to be honest.
Their denial letters did not mention whether they were unable to obtain the report or if they found it lacking information, but the person I spoke to on the phone said that it means they were "unable to access my report."
I really have no idea why this could be the case... but I'm happy that I have not applied for any CC's in the last few weeks as I was planning because I'd hate to get HP's and get denied because of this reason.
A minor update here, but still ultimately having the same problem. I spoke with Equifax on the phone today and they said one of the problems with my account was the way my name was presented on it. My name has a suffix on it, "V" and the V was represented as a middle initial. I had to fax Equifax my SS card and birth certificate today and they said within a few days they'd adjust this for me. I find it very hard to believe that this minor issue is what is preventing Capital One from accessing my report to determine if they should do a CLI.
My name has been presented multiple ways for a while now; this isn't new to my credit reports. I checked my TransUnion and Experian reports as well and they also have my name represented both ways, and no creditors have said they couldn't access either of them.
Still at a relative standstill here. Although EX will be removing the wrong representation of my name in the next few days I still don't believe that to be the problem...
