Crud! Overlimit!

I've been sooo careful with my new cards, payments early, etc., I just went overlimit on my Chase, accounting error on my part. I paid it immediatly (the overage) plus the due bill, is that going to slam my score?

If it reported that balance, then you may take a hit, but can easily recover next month.

Re: Crud! Overlimit!

Depends on their reporting date...if you get it back under the CL before they report..they have to report the new balance...they don't report EVERYTHING to the CRA...only what they see on reporting day....

Re: Crud! Overlimit!

Did you find out because it posted on a credit report, or did you notice on your online account?

Even if it reported, it probably won't affect your scores, but in either case, they might well take the opportunity to hit you with an over-limit fee and a rate jack. (This is Chase, after all.) If either of these happens, I would get on the phone and do your best groveling. We all make a math error every now and then; maybe you'll get someone who once added a withdrawal to their checkbook balance instead of subtracting, and remembers what it was like.

Good luck!

Re: Crud! Overlimit!

Exactly same thing happend to me yesterday, I gave them wrong routing bank number and I was charged bunch of fees........they said they overlimit is reported immediately to credit report, but I do not know how much does it affect report itself or score......it sucks! this is my first time something like this happed, I've been really careful and good with it. Btw Chase is the only bank that reports it right away all the other banks wait 30 days at least.......I think I'm cancelling my Chase cards...

Re: Crud! Overlimit!

As long as you don't pay late, the effects of an overlimit are rather temporary. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
