hi, I don't think I have posted for years, I hope everyone is well!
I am very upset. I have a DCU card that I only use to pull EURO out of ATMs, its a low fee card and great for this purpose. I paid the full balance on 7/30/2024 and forgot about the account. one cannot change the due date so honestly its off my normal work-flow. I am also 100% transactional so I forgot about the $7.87 of interest that posted sometime after I paid. I live in france part-time and was gone for a month. near the end the trip I lost contact with my DCU portal - I thought it was a tech glitch, VPN, etc. and thought I would just deal with it upon my return. if the portal was working I would not be typing this. awful.
anyhow I arrived home to LA on 10/15, opened the 2 DCU envelopes and saw 31 days late as of 10/6. I pushed a payment for $25 and it hit on Thursday 10/17. I now have notifications and autopay set up but that does nothing about what reports at the end of this month.
I have had cards for 4.5 decades and except for ~2008 never late. scores hover around 850. I am beyond distraught about this. I wrote a long email to Matt Goldsmith - Senior Vice President Member Services yesterday explaining everything and have not heard back yet but it seems to be this is on autopilot, unless they treat ancillary charges like interest differently when reporting I am going to have a 30 day late post next month
besides sending the pre-goodwill letter I sent and offering the nuclear options such as paying my car loan in full, closing the card, cancelling membership, etc. is there anything else I can do?
I put the ball in his court, I would do anything to prevent this future event from taking place. been with DCU exactly 3 years.
if anybody else wants to chime in I am all ears. if there is anything else or anyone else I should contact now is the time.
Thank you ~Kurt
EDIT, added an image that was also sent to DCU. %$^&#@
Sorry to hear this. Hopefully, dcu will not report the late.
Just to clarify, the card is a credit card? You use it for cash advances?
You might be better off with a no fee debit card for that purpose.

thank you for responding. want to take the "hopefully" out of the equation. just forwarded my note to the CEO, I am very motivated to nip this in the bud but again unless they only report on the primary balance I am cooked
really pissed at myself, this is so unlike me. its a credit card. no cash advance fees, just the conversion. not a fan of debit cards especially in the EU, I would rather pay the nominal interest then expose my chase biz account. banking in france is more of an art than a business, the financial sector feels like its run by children. then again they have art, architecture, culture, history, food, wine and one heck of a beautiful country. different priorities
Sorry to hear about the late payment, obviously from DCU's perspective it doesn't matter if it's interest charges, or fees, if it's paid late then the have the right to report it to the CRAs. I think being proactive and sending the GW request is a great idea and honestly I'm not sure there's much of anything else you can do right now other than wait for a response whilst checking your reports.
I just now got off the phone with a very pleasant woman from the executive offices of DCU - very professional and I mean very.
the crux of the matter is the late will not be reported. she said that it did indeed report 31 days on 10/06 but because it was paid off this month it will not be sent to the bureaus. she said she was very careful to check things out with other departments to insure she was relaying accurate information. she could not have been nicer and gave me her contact info should I have any issues in the future.
this is obviously not how this would have played out with most lenders. in light of the worlds problems I know this seems trivial and 1st world but I have worked hard to bring my scores up from the ashes as many have. if I woke up with scores in the 700s it would really hurt. anyway, all is good in the world again, have a good rest of the week!
That's great, very glad to hear that you were able to talk with them and get this confirmation

it really is, I am ecstatic. you know the drill and how important this is. I had another crazy thing happen when I was away. did my normal round of payments on the 10th via PNC. due date is the 12th for most of my accounts. new ax platinum biz, made a ~$14K payment along with an ax amazon. shows it processed, shows my loc was hit but did not post until the 15th w ax. thankfully autopay did its thing but just a cautionary tale to pay early and check the autopay which I am doing now! interest posted but ax took it off with proof of the pnc transaction.
Wheew ! You got lucky. Nice to hear this and you don't need me to tell you about the future with this card........

Great news and for anyone stumbling across this thread in the future, seriously consider having autopay set for at least the mininum payment for all accounts. Notifications are good too, but if you unexpectedly end up in hospital, jail, or or otherwise out of pocket for a few weeks, autopay will do what notifications won't.

right, a good cautionary tale. as stated, I have the net in place now. I have a zillion cards but only use a few, this is one that slipped by. never again, what a stupid move to blow out perfect scores on
