I have been with capital one for many years and I have never seen them do this. Last month I paid off a CO card that had been carrying a balance. This week I made a large purchase ($2700) with the intention of paying it off at the end of the statement/reporting period to make sure the $0 reporting is maintained while I continue to work on my credit. Well today that purchase / balance was reported.
Is this a normal occurrence? I see a few others have reported this here on myFICO but it appears it's usually if the card is near the credit limit. This card has an $8k limit. So nowhere near the limit. Normal reporting time is around the 12th. Seems strange they would report this now?
Capital One has been petty consistent with reporting balances after the statement date for me. The good news its that its not the end of the world, and when you pay off the balance it will report...eventually.

I'm not too worried about it as it should report the zero balance again here at statement close. But I am frustrated they would just randomly report this balance. The main reason I used this card for the purchase was because I thought it wouldn't be reporting for a little while. I'm currently applying for new business CCs. If I would have known this I would have out it on a different card.
I've got 4 Capital One cards and I've had no off cycle reporting. The only issue I've had is that they've been slow to report to EX on some of my accounts.
So strange. The only thing I can think of is they saw I'd paid the card to zero right before it was reported after carrying a large balance. Then if they were monitoring me they would have seen a hard pull from Chase. So when I put a $3k purchase on this card maybe it triggered some kind of auto reporting. Idk but I'll be remembering that and will probably start moving away from them in general. I've already been pretty unhappy with them.
