The original Creditor is 1st National Bank of Marin (another Credit Card I've never had)
I have looked back to an EQ credit report I had from 2009, no negative listing from them. For those of you who don't know I was a victim of identity theft back in 2004 and 2005, I never knew about it until 2009 when I pulled my credit reportt and saw several negative listings that were not mine, I did not know about disputing or anything credit related for that matter, but it was in March 2010 I decided that I had to take control of my credit and started researching and it was in Dec 2010 I hired a law firm to help me dispute the bogus negative listings on my report (there were only 2, a CO and a CA) after 5 months the last negative (The bogus HSBC CO) was removed, leaving me with a perfect credit report and great Fico scores (in my siggy).
Now I receive this letter and it has me worried that there may be more identity theft I don't even know about, should I be worried? Is this a hoax/scam?
I just recently "opted in" for Firm CC offers, could this have something to do with this letter?
Like I said my reports are clean and I've never seen or heard of 1st National Bank of Marin.
There is a number on the letter but I do NOT want to call it, I've done some research on this Debt Recovery Solutions and it seems they are less than ethical and do not have a good reputation.
I do not need to deal with this at all, I just spent the last 14 months repairing my credit due to someone else stealing my identity.
I'm really thinking this is a scam, I mean a collection letter that says "SUMMER SALE"?????
Just hoping for some opinions..................
Do they take double-off coupons?
If I'm not mistaken, First National Bank of Marin sells junk CCs like Credit One and may have operated as FNBM prior to that.
If not yours, I'd file a police report and have that handy just in case it wasn't too old enough to report.

Wouldn't it be on my reports already if they could report it? This either has to be another account that "special someone" who stole my identity in 2004-2005 opened and used the CC and never paid it, and if thats the case why was it never on my credit reports? And now all the sudden I receive a letter from them? Or its a Scam!
In regards to filing a police report, what do I do.....call the police and tell them I just received a letter from a CA and I know I never had an account with 1st National Bank of Marin and I suspect it's another case of identity theft against me?
Thanks IIecs for the response.
I personally would file a police report as a preventive measure. I'd call their non-emergency number and likely you can give the info over the phone and you can request the police report in a week or two. You would tell them that a collection agency is collecting on an account for a credit card you never owned. Tell them you suspect someone opened up a card with the OC's name sometime in the past. Be sure to closely study each CR (I know you have) and mention to the police that you did so because they'd tell you to do that anyway. Say that this could be an ID theft issue and you are worried that there's a chance other creditors are out there. I've called the police twice for this stuff (CC theft) and it's easy and painless. Now if we can only catch them.
Maybe it isn't reporting because it is too old? I dunno. Maybe the OC owns it and the CA is assigned, which could also mean why they won't report?
Thank you so much IIecs, I greatly appreciate your advice, I will do what you have advised
This is just something I do NOT need right now, I mean I just spent the last 14 months repairing the bogus negatives on my reports to now have perfect credit reports and great scores, and now I have to worry about this showing up on my reports, and believe me when I tell you I WILL be worried each and every day, just waiting on that "alert" from one of my CMS.
I do however monitor my reports WAY too much, I refresh my EQ and EX reports at least 3 times a week. So, if this does show up on my reports, I will know about it way before I get an alert.
I am going to just hope and pray, this is a farse and will not ruin all the hard work I've put in over the last 14 months.
But if it does show up, you can bet your bottom dollar I will fight it till the ends of the earth!!!
Thank you again.
First thing I would do is send out a debt validation request letter, certified mail, return receipt requested. Get all the details you can about this supposed account. The more information you have, the better decisions you can make. I am sure the local police will also be interested in DRS response to a DV letter if you are going to contact them.
I wouldn't count on the police to treat this like a major crime, it would probably be very, very low on their priority list.

I had a similar old one pop up, here is a link to how I dealt with it and advice from some other users as to how I could have done better:
