Deletion of A Collection

In August of 2007, I had a collection falsely placed onto my credit report.   Two months later, the entire balance was paid ($460) and the account was closed.  Several weeks ago, I filed a pro se lawsuit in federal court.  The VP of the collection agency has agreed to ask all three credit bureaus to delete the collection if I drop the suit.  Lastly Friday, he submitted a request for them to delete the collection.

Currently, my score is around a 670.  What type of point increase could I expect to see?  This collection was the only negative thing on my credit.

Re: Deletion of A Collection

If this is your only baddie (e.g. no PRs, lates 90+, CAs, COs, etc. after this one), and assuming you got the 670 from myFICO, then you should see an increase, as opposed to being rebucketed. I've seen some collections fetch anywhere from 20-100 points, when the last is removed. When is the DOFD?

Yes, this is my only "baddie."  What is DOFD?  Does that pertain to date of deletion?

Re: Deletion of A Collection

It was reported to the collection agency on August 1, 2007.  It was paid in full on or around October 10 of 2007.

Re: Deletion of A Collection

Hard telling on the increase. Your DOFD would be sometime before 8/2007. With the last major baddie being removed, I've seen anywhere from 20-100+ points being returned, but it depends largely on the DOFD. If this account first went bad around 7 yrs ago, then less would be returned. If the DOFD was in 2006 or 2007, then you'd see a larger increase.

Re: Deletion of A Collection

The collection was from an apartment complex that accused my former roommate and I of damages.  The lease expired on July 31, 2006.  An alleged letter was sent to both of us on September 26, 2006.  So, sometime in between September of 2006 and August 1 of 2007, the account was forwarded to the collection agency.

Re: Deletion of A Collection

what were you asking for in the lawsuit?
