Hello Birdman,
No bankruptcies, just late payments/charge offs. In fact, one was Wells Fargo and I'm still paying that. I send monthly payments to a law firm. Amex closed my account back in 2007/2008 because I was deemed a risk. However, I paid what I owed them in full. Again it was a very trying time for me, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm back from the abyss.
@joeyv1985 AMEX has a long memory, so they probably have records of what happened previously and as stated, they no doubt have pulled LEXIS-NEXIS.
they are famous for that. Out of all the lenders I have/had only American Express and one out-of-state credit union have pulled LEXIS-NEXIS on me.
Thank you Birdman. There are so many nuances in credit reporting. I can't help but feel compelled to learn as much as I can from this forum. Sometimes when I get someone from a credit card company on the phone, I fell like I know more than them and feel like I can finish their sentence for them.

Oh wow, I didn't even know that was a thing with Amex. I assume you have to get a report from LexisNexis to know who pulled it?
Here is the link: https://consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com/consumer
Half of it is automated now. They'll send a pin code in the mail that can decrypted the online report.
I found this on Reddit:
"Hello, I applied for Amex Gold and was denied- I recieved my letter today and it mentioned the typical reasons for denile but it also mentioned:
"There are no bank card accounts on your credit report. (Experian)"
"The length of time record(s) for you have been established with LexisNexis. (LexisNexis)"
There it is, plain as day - intermingled reason statements.

@joeyv1985 ain't that the truth? Well may I suggest you read the Scoring Primer linked at the top of my signature?

Birdman, I have read it and plan on writing a paper on it;-) All kidding aside it was written with such humor and depth that I can only imagine that you've had some type of training in Technical Writing or your profession is/was in a related field. It was so compelling that I saved it in my bookmarks. I've copied and pasted a couple sentences and sent it off in an email just so the recepiants will value my knowledge and vernacular.

@joeyv1985 thank you for the very kind words. Yes, spot on, one of my fields definitely requires too much writing!! And I've been trained in way too many types of writing! I just get lazy and tired sometimes and that's why I am habitual editor.
I'll tell you what, the Primer was definitely a big job, and without @Anonymous 's help, it would not exist! It's also a job to keep it up, but I love serving our Community.
Actually it started off with me correcting something someone else had written and trying to rearrange and format it and it's still not really where I am perfectly happy with it, but I think it's been called the best copendium of scoring information on the Internet!
I am proud of it and grateful for all the contributions from our Community that makes it great, but, if and when I get time, I am adding a mortgage section and hope to improve the format and flow.
Pay attention to the dates at the bottom of each post because as we learn new things, I correct and update information.
so glad you enjoyed it, it's always fulfilling to know and hear that it's helping people!

@joeyv1985 they mailed me the reports, but I think they've got a way to access it online, I'm not sure. Maybe someone with experience with that can chime in?

Pin in the mail within 2 weeks. Then you use that online to decrypt the report.
