Difficulty Obtaining CR, but Auto Dealer can!

I have been trying to obtain my credit report from Equifx and Transunion.  Having difficulties and they are telling me I need to provide all kinds of info to verify my identity.  Just a couple of week ago, purchased a car and the auto dealership was able to pull my reports with the same information and no problems!!  What is going on??

Where did you attempt to get your reports from?

Through AnnualCreditReport.com, also thru FreeCreditReport.com also thru Equifax site (was willing to pay for service too) and TranUnion site.  Only report I have been able to obtain using the same information is from Experian.

Did annualcreditreport give you a number or address? Did they tell you what to send to verify your identity?

No, they basically forwarded me to EQ and TU.  bottom line is that I can't figure out why the same information worked for the auto dealer but not for me....?

Re: Difficulty Obtaining CR, but Auto Dealer can!

Welcome to the forum, Deuts!

I pull reports every year from AnnualCreditReport.com, and the same thing happens to me every year..but only with TU. They never can seem to verify my identity, yet I've pulled my TU's here on myFICO no problem.

Go back to the AnnualCreditReport.com site and find the link for the printable form used for snail mail requests. Fill it out, checking off the boxes for the reports you DIDN'T get online and send it off. You'll get your reports from those two CRAs in about a week.

Expect to do the same thing next year, via snail mail.

I have no idea what causes this glitch, but I suspect it may have something to do with conflicting address info on the TU report somewhere. TU has an incorrect former address for me (from 15 years ago) that doesn't show up on the other two. The incorrect address is close, though...they just added a digit to a street address I actually did have.

The printed form, an envelope and one stamp will get you your reports.

Hope this helps, and again, welcome!

P.S.  The info worked for the auto dealer because they know who he is...they don't know who you are when you're requesting the info online.!
