Disputing a Debt Verification

Cleaning up my cerdit up to purchase a new home. A collections shows up dated May 2009 with a fall off date of March 2011. I sent a DV and disputed (should've watied to dispute).  They send back a form letter repeating the infor on my credit report. There is no way this debt is mine and I want it removed. What would be my next step to get it resolved?

Thanks

Re: Disputing a Debt Verification

If the C/O is scheduled to drop off in March 2011, then the debt was actually charged off in late 2003/early 2004. It may have been updated on that date, but that is not when it occured. Since it has been so long since the CO occured, you are going to have a very hard time getting it removed. You can try a letter to the creditor.
