Disputing items on your credit report

I am new to all of this.  If an account is showing on your report and it is older than 7 years can I dispute it and have it removed from my credit report?  What are the rules for disputing items on your credit report?

Re: Disputing items on your credit report

You can dispute as being beyond CRTP.

However, what date are you looking at and is this a positive or negative account?  Open or closed?

Re: Disputing items on your credit report

Well I filed for bankruptcy back in 1999.  I thought this would come off my report after 7 years.  Will it stay on my report forever?

Is it the BK (in the public records section) that is still reporting? If so, was it a BK7?

Yes and yes it was BK7.

Re: Disputing items on your credit report

The Federal Fair Credit Report Act requires that bankruptcy entries will remain for 10-years.

A dismissed chapter 7 remains for 10 years.

A dismissed chapter 13 remains for 7-years.
