Disputung Inquiry

I applied for Paypal Credit during checkout as it offered me the chance to make six payments on a purchase instead of one, but when I went to use it, Paypal told me I couldn't use Paypal Credit.  Now for the next two years I will have this on my credit card.  Can I dispute this and is it worth it?  I feel like they are a big enough company to know which sites can and cannot accept Paypal credit, so I feel like the did the old bait and switch.  Thanks for any help.

Re: Disputung Inquiry

Have you contacted PayPal? For me it wouldn't be worth spending more time than a call. Scoring wise inquiries last a year and aren't that significant- unless- that one puts you over a threshold or if your applying for a mortgage. If you're applying for a mortgage you really shouldn't be applying for credit anyway. Good luck.

Re: Disputung Inquiry

Once you have initiated a request for credit, that gives permissible purpose for pull of your credit report under FCRA 604.

And once the CRA has filled the request by sending your credit report, the toothpaste is out of the proverbial tube, and the CRA will not entertain a dispute that the inquiry was improper.

A dispute must assert some inaccuracy in the information, and will almost assuredly be denied.

Disputes relating to credit inquiries can have a valid basis if the consumer never initiated any request for credit, but that does not appear to be the situation set forth in the post.

Re: Disputung Inquiry

Thanks for the replies.  I thought inquiries stayed on the report for two years?  I kind of figured it was a lost cause.  I did chat with Paypal and Symphony, who runs Paypal Credit, and got nowhere.  I still think I they should know what they're selling, but both claimed they didn't.  Thanks again.

Re: Disputung Inquiry

@Anonymous inquiries stay on the report for 2 years but after 1 year they don't impact your scores.

On another note, @RobertEG I like your writing style! Super snazzy 😊
