ProudMom wrote:I have read a lot on these boards over the past month or so. I have to say there is a lot of useful and good to know information on here. Only if I'd found them sooner. That being said......I am trying to get my husband's credit cleaned up. I have a copy of his credit report from Equifax that a creditor gave me. Here is what he has.Collection items-NCO FIN/99 - Assuming this is NCO Financial?Amount- $78 Balance- $48 Listed 01/01 Reported 06/07CavalryAmount - $66 Balance- $66 Listed 03/03 Reported 06/07Medical (no collection agency given)Amount- $16 Balance - $16 Listed 02/03 Reported 07/06Medical(no collection agency given)Amount- $26 Balance - $26 Listed 10/03 Reported 07/06ACS ColletAmount - $29 Balance - $29 Listed 11/01 Reported 04/06CBCSAmount - $216 Balance- $216 Listed 09/04 Reported 10/05MID SO CRAmount- $150 Balance- $75 Listed 11/02 Reported 01/04MID SO CRAmount- $165 Balance- $165 Listed 11/02 Reported 04/03Then under accounts it has the following:MIDLANDReported 06/07, No date for when opened, High Credit $275, Past Due $275, Balance $275DLA 03/03Underneath this item it states " Consumer disputes this account information". We did dispute thisas to we did not know what it was, but it has been over a year since we disputed it and we haveheard nothing. Still have no clue what it is, who the OC is or anything else.LVNVFUNDGReported 06/06, No date for when opened, High Credit $216, Past Due $216, Balance $216DLA 04/02 It then states Collection Account below this. This is a collection account from MCIwhich is already listed up above under "Collection Items" under CBCS.Then there are 16 other accounts that are all marked " Closed or Paid Account/Zero Balance". They were all paid accounts. A few years ago we were told to go to the small loan places in town and get loans and pay them off and this would build our credit. I have read on here that this in fact might be hurting our credit. It isn't from 16 different creditors, they are from just 2 creditors. The loans started out low, what they called "credit starter loans". As we paid the loans we could go up a "level" and get a little higher loan. We started on level one and we are now on their highest level with one of the companies, and about half way up with the other. So we have 3 open, marked "paying as agreed, never late, except one time last year. When these are paid off in just a few months, they are staying closed. These are all installment loans. Then he has the Ford Motor Credit Account. It is reported as:High Balance $9900.00, Balance $0, Reported 11/05, Opened 09/01 DLA 11/05Closed or Paid Account/Zero BalanceAUTOWas paid off a year ahead of schedule, but shows a few late payments. The majority of these items, well all except for the positive installment loan accounts, occurred before we were married. He didn't realize that his credit was actually useful and something he needed to take care of. Some of them are just silly and I could kick him for not paying them. What a dufus he was. What I don't understand though is that some of these didn't even report until AFTER we were married which is actually up to 3 yrs after they actually occurred. Most of the items are medical, the MCI is from his sister having a phone in his name. A few of the medical is because his insurance changed, doctors offices were given copies of new insurance information but continued to file with old insurance. We called MCI, they said without the account number they could not give us any information. I tried to explain that we did not have an account number, because we never had the telephone, his sister did. We have asked for proof of the bill, was told we needed account number. A few months back we got a letter from the CA concerning this. I called and told them that we disputed the bill due to it not being ours and have never heard from them again.I know it will take time, but I have faith for getting all this cleaned up.So here is what I have planned:Send PFD letters to them all. None of them are that major so I will offer to pay in full.Should I send letters and try to get some of the closed accounts removed? Creditor A has 11 accounts listed, 10 paid off/closed, 1 open. Creditor B has 5 listed, 4 paid off/closed, 1 open.I thought of sending a GW letter to Ford Motor Credit and ask them to remove the late payments? Chances of this actually happening?I know his credit scores are 574, 533, 533 (according to a creditor, but I never asked which score from which company)One of his other credit reports also list him owing US Bank $642. He says that he deposited his paycheck in his account, the bank decided to hold the funds because the check was from out of town (which they all state they have the right to do) but he had worked for the same company for over a year and they had never done it before. He didn't realize they held the funds, he wrote checks and they bounced. So he refused to pay the overdraft charges, which is the $642. This was at least a year before we meet, which means it's been at least 6, almost 7 years.Which would be better, send them a PFD letter(which I'd offer a settlement offer) or wait another 6months-year and let it fall off?Any input would be greatly appreciated and thank you for taking time to read this.
