I have just moved into a new condo and signed off on the association to do a backround check and credit check. My question is ... do I have the legal right to ask the association for a copy of the credit report? I was approved so I'm not disputing their findings I just don't want to pay for another credit report when I had to pay them to run it.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

hi Mike, and WELCOME to the forums!
As far as having a legal right to obtain your CR from the association that pulled it, i dont think so. i think that only works that way if you applied for credit and were denied
but you may be able to "sweet talk" someone in the association into giving you a copy of your Credit reports. thats what i had to do with my Credit UNion. i had applied for a personal loan and they pulled my credit and i figured it would be cool to get a copy of that report. the Loan officer told me that they werent supposed to do that but after a few minutes of talking with her, she let me make a copy of it.
Thank you for your response. I will take your advice and try to talk my way into them showing me the report. Thanks again
Agree with the other poster. You r entiled to receive a report only when u r denied for something or an adverse action on the basis of the pulled report. try talking with ur managment. I usually get a copy from leasing management.
No problem! Every place of business is different and they all have different policies in place. your Condo people may be very willing to give you your report, whereas, mine was hesitant. its definetly worth a shot, i would never pass up the chance to obtain a Free Credit report. Just in case you didnt know, you can also Pull all 3 of your credit reports From AnnualCreditReport.Com for free once every 12 months.
I pulled all the accounts from AnnualCreditReport.com after I disputed a bogus late fee from Wachovia. After having all 3 reporting agencies take off that bad ding, my score has increased by 30-60 points on each report! I cannot stress how important it is to fight those negative charges. I only have one last negative effecting account and I am now going to ask for forgiveness from the company and hope it works. Best of luck to all of you and thanks for your help
You only have a right to obtain a free copy of your credit report when a creditor has used the report as part of an "adverse action," such as denial of credit, or has offered you credit at less favorable terms based on information in your CR, FCRA 615.
Even in those situations, the creditor is not the party obligated to provide a copy of your CR. They must, when denying credit, inform you of the CRA from which they pulled the CR used in their determination, and your right to send a copy of the denial letter to that CRA within 60 days to obtain the free copy from them.
