Do all three of the CRAs go by the DOFD when deleting entries off a CR? I thought I read somewhere that EQ goes by DOLA, but TU and EX go by DOFD. Is that true?
If I had an account where the first late payment was in 03/2003 but the account was closed and paid off in 06/2005, would it be deleted from my CR in 02/2010 or 05/2012 with each of the CRAs?
Facts You Should Know
The length of time an account or record remains in your credit file is shown below:
- Collection Agency Accounts: Remain for up to 7 years from the Date of 1st Delinquency
- Credit or Other Reported Accounts: Accounts paid as agreed remain for up to 10 years from the Date of Last Activity. Accounts not paid as agreed (ie. delinquent, charge off, accounts placed for collection remain for up to 7 years from the Date of 1st Delinquency
By law, the CRAs have to go by DOFD in determining drop-off date. So why EQ confuses the masses by referring to DOLA, when in fact the DOLA they are referring to is really the DOFD.

I'm wondering if they place the "DOFD" in the "DOLA" field b/c maybe they don't have a "DOFD" field? I don't have a current copy handy to look.
