Do soft inquiries matter?

Discover and CapOne do soft inquiries/AR on me every month it seems? i know it isnt hurting my score BUT it has to be hurting something?

The only potential hurt would be if you got so many softs that it split your file. But that's more likely from pulling your own reports, which loads up the softs something fierce.

Or I suppose if you had gotten AmEx or one of the other hyper-vigilant CCC's, and you were in the process of maxing out your other cards, you might get some AA from it. But that would be due to your actions, not due to the existence of softs.

If you subscribe to Equifax Credit Watch Gold you will notice they chop the softs. Disappear. If you're concerned about a split file this might help. Split files are actually rare. Softs don't matter on EX and they have less effect on a TU file than on an EQ file or so I am told.
