I may have been the victim of identity theft. Trying to sort it out now but I want to put a freeze on my credit report(s).
Will this prevent me from getting monthly FICO scores at my banks? (eg Chase, Amex, Citi)
I know this will prevent me from getting approvals online for new credit but are there any other effects that I should be aware of? For example, I use Intuit Mint to manage my finances. Will that be blocked? etc etc
Thanks for the assist everyone.
Your existing creditors still have access to your reports (scores), so you will be getting them like you normally would.
It shouldn't create any issues with you getting your scores from soft pull sites, accessing accounts, etc. The only caveat I am aware of is Discover's free CreditScorecard service, even though it is a soft pull it will not show you a score if your Experian report is locked/frozen.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Much appreciated. I am going to go ahead and freeze them. I was lucky that I caught the identitity theft early on so can move swiftly. Also reading the sticky about it on the forums here and using it as an action plan. Thanks.
