Does a freeze prevent reporting sites from accessing your file

I decided to freeze all my reports last week just for safety. I knew I had an update on creditscorecard.com so decided to check and got a message that they could not give me my report because my file was frozen. I thought these types of access where I signed up would still work is that not the case when they are frozen?

Creditscorecard (from Discover) is the one I’ve found that cannot pull through a freeze. There may be others but that’s the one I’m aware of. All the other sites I’ve encountered can give you reports and scores updates while frozen.

Okay, thanks for that information. I was wondering sinc eit appears that CK did update. Do you know if myfico has this issue? I do have a 3b report available that I don't want to execute until my cards updates their utilization this month. I'll remove the freezes if needed as I want to see all those scores and don't want to risk wasting my report or having to deal with support to get a fresh pull.

A freeze is not supposed to stop your ability to personally receive scores or allow soft pulls from subscription sites.  Your creditors are not prevented, either.

I am a customer of Disco, so they have ability, perhaps that is why my scorecard continues to update.

While CK continues to update, any of their specific "get offers" links always produce a rash of AA letters stating my reports are locked.

Re: Does a freeze prevent reporting sites from accessing your file

Discover can’t ever access Experian when it’s frozen for me, I had to unfreeze when I signed up for myFICO in order to make it through the security team (this was a big headache because I had gone through the whole thing and it was throwing an error and then it dawned on me it might be the frozen reports so I had to hang up, unfreeze, and call back), and Synchrony to this day cannot pull my credit reports for a CLI if it’s frozen. I get a letter saying that they cannot approve it because my credit is frozen.

Credit freezes are a really big hassle at times. I finally decided it wasn’t worth the hassle and took mine off all three when TransUnion’s website and app both went down for like a week and wouldn’t let me manage my freeze. Good thing I saved all my PINs so I could call and lift it.

A credit freeze only allows you to get your credit report directly from the credit bureaus, third parties have to be given access. I don’t know why that doesn’t seem to apply to CK and WalletHub though, they both continued to work throughout the duration of my freezes without issue.
