Does rental application hurt credit score?

Does it effect your credit score and credit report when you fill out an application to rent a home or apartment ?Will that show up as an hard pull and an inquiry?

I am speaking from a common sense perspective.  But the inquiry really won't hurt your score for long.  It's obviously a "needed" inquiry if you need a place to live.  People can't live life avoiding all inquiries, nor do I believe, does FICO intend it to be that way.

If they pull credit it will be a hard inquiry. In my experience, not everyone does a credit check.
