I should have seen this before. 25+ disputes now. The letter from my bank stated multiple changes. Yet Eq keeps saying account does not exist and doesn't read the next line on the letter to handle the next account in dispute.
My letter from my bank looks something like this.
THERE ARE 3 ACCOUNTS IN DISPUTE. TOTAL 3.
1. xxxxx... this account 1230000000 is in disputes and should be deleted.
2. xxxxx... this account 4560000000 is in disputes and should be deleted.
3. xxxxx... this account 7890000000 is in disputes and should be deleted.
end of disputes.
Eq looks at the letter from my bank, sees that 123 is not on file and CLOSES THE DISPUTE. Eqs response is accounts are not on file. It would seem that their new way now is only doing the 1st line on every dispute.
So in order to dispute multiple accounts now, each account in dispute MUST be done separately. If you have accounts to dispute, dispute them all with separate dispute numbers. Do not choose multiple items any more. I also have a feeling Eq reads only the first line in your dispute so keep the instructions down to 10 words if possible.
It doesn't matter if I call back to say READ THE LETTER. Since they re-dispute it and the people in the dispute dept only read the first line and close it over again. I think after 25+ disputes their not reading dispute letters past the first line.
Here's the plan. I am going to cover up or remove the other accounts and fax it back again just one account at a time, new dispute number for each one. I bet it works.
The reason it is processed this way, the person that picks up the fax is NOT handling it personally, they are scanning it and the system reads it.
It picks up the 123 and that is it,
Fax your next one with a different font so the scanner can't read it and spits it out for a REAL PERSON to actually do some work for a change.
It sort of worked. I disputed it again a few different ways 1 account at a time. Finally the results were.....Deleted! It was a combination of reporting it exactly the way EQ wanted it, and doing 1 account at a time.
But right away they got the correct account number... No more multiple accounts on the same dispute number with EQ for me. From now on separate dispute numbers for each single account. I'm thinking even if there are 2 changes for the same account maybe better to do separate disputes.
