Double reporting??

Double reporting??

I have an old account that was charged off. The original creditor still reports it with the unpaid balance and as charged off and transfered. The collection agency is also reporting a balance which is not the same amount and they report the current status as "not reported". But the account is the same because they have the original creditors name on top of there reporting. Basically the original creditor is still reporting and the collection agency is also reporting on the same account. Is this double reporting? Thanks!

Re: Double reporting??

I think you can dispute the OC to say that it was transfered, but it may come back and say charged off or something worse.  I'm not really sure, but I think that they can both report, but if they send it to another CA, the CA it's with now must be deleted.

Re: Double reporting??

You can have an OC and a CA reporting the same debt at the same time!

Re: Double reporting??

What if the 7yrs has came by and the OC has no choice but to delete the reporting due to the 7yr fair credit act. Does that mean the CA has to delete their reporting also or can they stay? I also notice some of my other accounts have been passed on to one, or even two or more different CA. I just want to make sure nobody is re-aging any accounts.

Re: Double reporting??

After the SOLR (Statute Of Limitations for Reporting), has run, the trade line will be removed by the CRA.  The OC nor the CA has anything to do with that.  If they are reporting incorrectly, you may dispute the specific item that is incorrect with the CRA and the OC or CA has a duty to report correctly.  If the item is past the SOLR you may dispute with the CRA that this item is obsolete and it will be removed.

Should the CA responds that the item is 'verified' and you have proof that it is incorrect, you may have a COA (cause of Action) against the CA.

Re: Double reporting??

Most of my CO accounts are 6yrs old and if I looked at the information carefully in my state where I live at right now indicates that my SOL started 2yrs ago. So if your pass the SOL in your state you can dispute the items and it needs to be removed? If yes, is does that mean I use the SOL for my reason for the dispute? Thanks!!

SOL has nothing to do with CRTP. If SOL expires, it can continue to report for the full 7 yrs (for most baddies).

That's true. But since the OP stated that the OC is still reporting a balance, I thought the OC would have to report a $0-balance before the CA can report that amount? I could be wrong though..

I have accounts that seem like there being double reported. I also notice the CA who is doing the double reporting are playing tricks because they use different account numbers to list and the balances are off by like 2-5 dollars. I have records that date back 6yrs ago and I know I do not have some of those accounts that are being reported. What I am most concerned about is the fact on how many times has the accounts have been bought out from many different CAs. It seems a lot like re-aging. Either way I hit the 7yr mark next year so I will see what is supposed to be deleted and supposed to be on my CR.
