Duplicates on CR?

How do you properly handle duplicate entries on your CR?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Duplicates on CR?

Back in like 1996 I had a cell phone with ATT that I lost due to unemployment. It is a valid collection. However I completely forgot about it, and then when Cingular took over ATT, they listed it as well, while still leaving the ATT collection on the report.

Now that ATT has taken back over again, I now have 3 collections for the same account on my report!!! How do I kill the duplicates, so that I can just work with the one valid collection?

Re: Duplicates on CR?

Can you guess when the DOFD (date of first default; when the account went 180 days late) was? Also which state do you live? These questions will determine if the collections are too old to report and your SOL (statue of limitations).

Re: Duplicates on CR?

I live in Texas where the SOL is 4 years, this debt is definitely old. But as far as I know they can still try to collect right?

At the same time, I noticed that multiple times over the course of time with many different 3rd party collectors touching these accounts the DOLA's have been changed quite frequently, and it also seems the DOFD might have been changed at some point in there too maybe?

The more I think about this account the more upset I get.

Dispute with all CRA  all accounts that are showing.

At the same time send a letter to each CA telling them that the debt is past CRTP and that they have 1 day do remove it from your CR or you will take legal action!   CMRRR

Just for my FYI, while the SOL is 4 years, things like this are still allowed to show up for 7 years on your CR right? I just looked at my CR again and the account didn't first go delinquent until some time later and it looks like I have about 6 more months to go until I reach the 7 year mark.

This seems unlikely. Didn't you default well before the new millenium?

Re: Duplicates on CR?

I thought I had defaulted before 2000, but the dates they're showing don't match that.

Re: Duplicates on CR?

I have duplicates on my CR as well.  I didn't notice this until just a few minutes ago.  I have two accounts with Sears that have been in collections for several years.  I think the last time I sent a payment was 2002 or 2003.  I don't have any records anymore.  Anyway, I called Sears and they were able to refer me to Citibank's collection's department, who let me know of the collection agency handling my account.  I'm looking at my credit report and the agency that Citibank named isn't on my credit report, but LVNV Funding, Sears/CBSD, and CBUSASears are.  I've already sent a DV letter to the collection agency that Citibank named (RCS).  Do I send a DV letter to the others as well?  Do I dispute with all four?  There should only be two accounts...one was a Sears card and the other a Sears Plus account, but there are several different amounts on my credit report.  I'm not sure how to proceed.

Thanks.

[OOPS!  FURTHER RESEARCH INTO LVNV FUNDING FOUND IT'S A PARENT COMPANY OF RCS...SO NO DUPLICATES! PLEASE DISREGARD POST.]
