I got my EX FICO from an "inside source" from a bank where I recently applied for and received a credit card. I can't say from where, but it took a month of constant inquiries from my "friend" who pried it out of someone. I understand that banks will have to reveal scores in January by law for denials (mortgages but not credit cards?), but I doubt that they'll be revealing them for approvals. In any case, there was a HUGE disparity between FICO (742) and PLUS (784) scores. I'm sure this was a one time deal for me, so I'm feeling pretty lucky right now!

An Experian Plus score is not the same as an Experian FICO score and the two can't be compared in any way. If your inside source got you a Plus score I'm afraid they wasted your time.
Unless I'm misunderstanding what you wrote. Are you saying your Plus score is 784 and the EX FICO your friend got you is a 742?
I apologize for my confusion.

Sorry if I was confusing! I just happened to pull my EX PLUS score (784) the same day the bank pulled my EX FICO score (742) for my credit card application. I inquired with my friend if I could somehow find out what the EX FICO score the bank pulled was. He didn't think there would be a problem, but then got the same run around from his own CSR's that they couldn't give out that information. My friend went up the food chain, and eventually got someone to cough up my score. I explained to him the difference between FICO and FAKO scores, which he had a hard time understanding. From a banker no less! I didn't expect him to have any success, but I got an email from him today with the score.

I'm glad we're finally on the same page.
You are one of the lucky few who know their EX FICO score. And as an added bonus it didn't cost you anything. Congratulations.

Thanks! What I find truly horrifying is what it actually took to get MY credit score from a lender. I was certainly not supposed to have known what the bank pulled and I would bet that my friend could have gotten into serious trouble for "arranging" it for me. A forty point difference between what consumers think their score is through scoring systems other than FICO and what the banks see in real FICO scores can make a huge difference in what kind of rates and terms consumers get offered. 1% on a thirty year mortgage can make a huge difference, and not in the consumers favor! Not to mention anywhere from 5-10% on any kind of revolving debt. It's all an interesting game, it seems.
Credit Unions tell you on the spot. I was told mine over the phone. lol. Whatever bank that was, I wouldnt even bother apping them for nothing else, cause seems they are to inconspicious. Plus why would you let your friend snoop into your credit, that opens doors to be asked to cosign. Credit can seperate families and ruin friendships...be careful. and Congrats on your approval.

Some do. Most don't.

NFCU sure won't.
