this happens to me in my score watch through expreian, also. i'll get an alert that my score went up +120, then a week later i get an alert -120. i have nothing pending and nothing has changed. this happens about every three to four months....curious
Hi, tagg, welcome to the forums!
You might actually have a different problem: a split file.
First of all, just so I'm clear, if you have Scorewatch, it's your Equifax score that's jumping around, not your Experian, right? I always tangled the two up when I first started learning about credit because of the e-x thing. Scorewatch tracks Equifax (EQ.) If you have a credit monitoring service from Experian, the score that they're giving you is not a FICO, it's what we call a FAKO, and basically worthless.
So anyway, what caught my eye was your saying that your score is going up and down by the identical figure. That often indicates that part of your total credit file has "broken off." Most accounts are on one chunk, and the rest are on the other. Depending on what's on which chunk, you can get wildly different scores, depending on which chunk gets accessed at scoring time.
If you saved the reports that come with the high and low scores, and you compare them, is the same information on each one?
If you do have a split file, it can be put back together again, but it's a huge pain in the butt. You'll have to call Equifax (which is closed on weekends) to start the process. And again, if this was Experian, then I dunno. EX (Experian) has much more stable software than EQ and TU, and I don't know if their files ever split.
