Employment credit check

I have accepted an offer to work in the legal department of a Mortgage company. The offer letter I signed says it is contingent on a background check (didn't say what kind). I am told it is done thru Zenefits and it is pretty quick, same day results. They will contact me in a few days to complete the background check. I am worried that this will include a credit report check. My household lost 50 percent income over a year ago and it caused me to have some lates and charge offs. But I have been rebuilding and cleaning my credit up. I have perfect history for about 11 months now. I hope My offer does not get resinded due to the lates and charge offs. Does anyone have experience with Zenefits or with credit being pulled by employer, and what are they looking for exactly?

Re: Employment credit check

No experience with Zenefits, but found this description on their website. Seems like it's a standard criminal background check, not financial.

Re: Employment credit check

The emphasis seems to be on criminal background. If you don't actually deal with the company's money, a credit check would be seen as being irrelevant.

Re: Employment credit check

I worked at a background check company and most of the time we would do a soft pull to verify ssn only. Most employers don't care about financials and were more interested in criminal searches. We did pull credit for people selling insurance or dealing with investments in banking.

Re: Employment credit check

Thank you for the responses. I will be dealing mostly with delinquent mortgages and processing some payments and loan modifications. Hopefully it will not require a credit report pull.

Yes. In my experience when HR is put off by an item(s) on the credit report, a letter of explanation is usually satisfactory. As long as nothing smells criminal, and the hiring individual has sufficient sway, HR will merely notate the file and move along. It's due dilligence.
