@K-in-Bostonwrote:@simplynoir you are simplythebest. Thanks for those links. Doesn't help my problem, but at least I know I'm not alone. Will be interesting to see how this changes things with EQ pullers.
Honestly, I would consider freezing EQ if there are no future app/CLI requests coming up that need it depending on how bad the score drop is and how long you want to hold out fighting this by talking to the banks.
I'll wait it out a bit and see what happens. I just grabbed my annual (twice annual since I live in MA) credit report from Equifax just to confirm that it's not a glitch with EQ data in the credit monitoring sites, and they really do not show there. (And for ownership, rather than Individual, Authorized User, or Joint, DW's CapOne shows as Undetermined.) Shocking to see that I had nearly 200 soft pulls on EQ in the past year! LOL
Freezing EQ wouldn't actually prevent this from happening, though, right? Existing lenders are still able to update info, even if it's incorrect or omitted.

It wouldn't stop it no but that was just a worse case scenario depending on how this month treats you. If it were me it would have to be a very BIG drop to consider that type of action but I'm leaning my money on it not dropping as bad as we think. We'll see shortly though, right?
At least it will a great datapoint to have in the end when it's all said and done. ![]()

Okay, now this is just bizarre. I just pulled my monthly CCT 3 bureau update. As expected, I had drops on both Experian and TransUnion due to the BT shuffling and a couple of cards reporting 60+% utilization. That will recover in a few months as those balances come down. What I was not expecting is that my Equifax score actually went up a point! This makes no sense. I just went through the reports and compared. The main differences I can see on Equifax:
- AU Chase card opened in November not reporting (but joint Jordan's Furniture account opened in January is); okay so maybe a point or two for not having this new card ding.
- About $200k or so in credit lines not reporting, but also about $28k in revolving debt not reporting. With rounding, Equifax overall utilization is 2% higher than EX and TU. You'd think I would lose a few points here.
- One card with just over 60% utilization is not reporting, but I have two others in the same boat (PenFed, NFCU) that are. You'd think maybe a point or two at most for this one card.
- Number and age of inquiries is relatively equal across all 3.
- Age of oldest account is now 5.8 years newer on EQ (18.2 vs 24). Okay, so maybe 18 and 24 are in the same relative scoring bucket, and the next boost is really at 25?
- Average age of accounts is 7.3 years vs 8 years. In the past few years, I have seen score drops going under 8. Maybe with other factors on my reports this is no longer the case?
- Of the revolvers that are reporting to all 3, the only difference in reported balances is US Bank, which is about $200 higher on EQ.
Certainly a mystery, but losing those AU accounts my EQ is at 738 while the other two are at 724.
Edit: Wonder if I got rebucketed with EQ? Like my reports don't look as good for someone with 24 years of credit history, but they look pretty good (2 points shy of very good) for someone with a limited 16 years? I really wish I knew now what I knew when I started closing accounts 15-20 years back.
Told you. Perhaps not entirely in the way I thought it would (not) impact your credit but I told you. ![]()
lolz credit bureaus are weird.
In my belief system you never close any account. Banks close/merge. CCC go out of business/merge. Your oldest card could be bought out and the new company reports its CC issued to you as a new card. I've learned the hard way when I use to close out CC. You take away credit from your self and you lose the buffer if you screw up a CC or two,
