Hi all,
I'd love to know how this happend....I cleared it up with Experian a while ago....a fraudulent address was on my credit report, somewhere in Philly - something to do with when my wallet was stolen, had carried my social security card and dl in it, another story; in anycase, I got the address off of the Experian Credit report, and many others.... There is NO doubt in my mind that this address belongs to the same thieves that stole my wallet...no doubt.
I just pulled another EQ report realtime and noticed that somehow that address was added to EQ now - I disputed it as a fraudulent address, but really, I wonder how did EQ even get that address in the first place? how did it make it to that report? Just two days ago, I checked and they finally changed my address to the correct one, now the former address showing is the fraudulent one? All of my creditors have my current address.
I have FA's on all reports with my mobile number; I'm frozen with EQ and EX but not TU. Still, don't think they can get through the FA on TU, good luck if they could. Maybe I should throw TU on ice.
How the heck could this happen? where in the world did EQ get that address? why would they add it now?
Any insight as to how this could have happend? Thank you in advance.
I mailed a letter off to EQ 2 week ago to get a bad address of my CR. Got a letter from them today saying they took it off.
Easy as could be.
You need to send a letter asking them to remove it again. And see if you can find out which creditor added it on there.
The addresses come from when credit is applied for or granted. The people making the inquiry, or posting the new trade lines update the personal information. If your theives are applying for credit then they may be using the address.
Why not file a police report, and print out the credit report showing the address, also any new inquiries that are not from anything you know about. Maybe they can track the theives down.
Thanks Newstart2010 -my wallet and ID were stolen (and they ran up all my cards too) about 12 years ago. But the theives still have my information, my dl number and my ss number, so I don't have a police report for that long ago.
I disputed the address as "fraudulent" - I'm frozen so no one can app for credit. I just don't understand how a CRA can just "add" an address...I got an email from equifax telling me to send in my driver's license, utility statment (none in my name) and letter.
Thanks Revike
I called Equifax - rep said the address got reported from one of my creditors......now I need to send them a utility bill, current DL and either my SS card (don't have it) or my W2. I think I'll send them my W2 but black out my income information as I don't see that they should need to have this information.
Daisy...we have an address reporting that my husband's Discover somehow picked up. It is an address in our community but belongs to another unrelated family with the same last name. Unfortunately, at the address lives an older lady who freaks when she gets Discover promotions addressed to us at her address. She calls us. We reassure her that...no...we never used her address, that this is Discover's mistake. The statement always comes to us, however.
So...we called Discover. No...they tell us...they have our address correct in their system. We're getting our statements, aren't we???
We dispute with the CRAs, get the address taken off...and then a couple of months later it's back. We start the process all over again.
Now..we're going to let it sit unless the woman at the address gets upset again. Discover won't fix it because they won't believe it's happening. The CRAs take it off, just to have it pop up again. I don't want to be seen by them as someone who files a lot of disputes, so I'm done disputing it with them.
I know this saga doesn't help you with your situation, but we've basically decided it's harmless and will live with it.
