Just barely on the 1st of April I initiated a dispute for an AMEX AU acct to be removed, It clearly says it may take up to 30 days and it has in other cases but this one was solved in 4 days, ALTHOUGH It wasnt removed from my CR it just went to the Closed Accts section with a 0 balance. Should I leave it like that or have it permanently removed? I dont mind it being in the closed section as long as it has a $0 balance. How will it look for other creditors especially for AMEX when I apply for a CC on my own?
In my opinion, the entire process of disputing an AU as not yours as a means to get it removed is questionable.
By its very definition, an AU is "not mine." It is an anomoly of credit reporting that both the principal card holder and the authorized user agree to.
I see no inaccuracy in having that type of account not mine in your credit report, and thus would not pursue its removal via a dispute.
It is thus not suprising that a CRA might do some strange things in handling such a strange dispute.....
If removal of the AU is the goal, then the creditor should be contacted and requested to simply discontinue that reporting.
Being closed with a $0 balance does not remove the AU entirely from scoring. It still, for example, is included under AAoA calculation.
The effect of the AU continuing to appear will thus mean that in any app for credit, any score a new creditor receives will not be based only on your own credit history.
They cannot back out one account, and obtain a score representative of only your history.
While a closed account might have minimal effect on scoring, it can stll have some effect.
Personally, I would have the principal card holder notify the creditor to delete the AU reporting, and thus clear my report of any history of another.
It may create more problems that its age might provide some score boost.
Great thanks! The card belongs to my dad and was added as an AU if I decide to leave it alone will it affect me in anyway when applying for an AMEX product?
Possibly.
With an account of another included in your credit report and scoring, one reviewing your credit report would have no way of knowing the effect of that account on your score, and thus, if they desire to do so, see your own score without any impact of the history of another. They cannot back out indvidual account information.
Unless you clearly need the AU, getting it removed will eliminate the fact that any score now obtained will not reflect your own history.
thanks robert I gues I should start that dispute ASAP.
Note that my recommendation was to handle via the creditor, not to dispute.
Your call.
