Equifax explaination for the computer glitch yesterday. "Weird"

Yesterday, I got an alert from Equifax monitoring that my Experian report changed. But I saw no change on my Experian report. Equifax yesterday said it was a system error and they would send it over to technical.

Today Equifax stated that the reason for the computer glitch is that my Experian report has two files under the same SSN. And, when an account changed on one of my Experian reports it triggered an alert on my Equifax monitoring that sent me a email. I told them I did not have that account showing on my Experian report and pulled one to verify it. Then they said the report I seeing from Experian is not the one with the account the other one is(what, a ghost account).

When I initially got the first alert that supposibly came from Experian, it stated that the account change from paid as agreed to not more then 30 days late. After Equifax technical people sorted it out and added the changed to their report where the account only resides, it stated not more that 2 months late. She said the difference I was seeing is because OC's report differently to the various bureaus.

The cause of the trigger:
Capital one said that even though I had not missed a regular payment, the loan matured and each month the remaining balance is not paid I will get hit for another 30 days. The loan matured 42 days ago and it trigger a 30 day late since balance is not paid. I made arrangements with them but they will not remove any lates. There was a outstanding balance do to late fees and deferments I had two years ago.

Wow, my eyes just crossed on that one!

Just to untangle what's left of my brain, do you have Equifax's 3-in-1 monitoring service? Because otherwise, I don't know how Experian entered the dance. Smiley Tongue

Yes I do and thats how they entered the situation. But Experian does not have that account when I pulled a new report. Equifax later change it so that it shows as a change on their report. Then, they stated it was caused by the fact that I have two experian accounts under the same SSN, one showing the account in question and one without. I have never seen more than one report from Experian. So, I don't know where they are getting that. I felt their demeanor sounded dishonest. Hope that helps.

This might be worth following up with Experian, if you can find someone who will actually talk to you. I can see how a couple bogus reports might show up on all three reports, if a creditor entered another person's SSN incorrectly, but that's pretty weird that it only shows up on EX. Maybe EX entered someone's SSN wrong, and they pull up on your EX report when your EQ service runs its three-in-one.

OK, those sentences probably sounded like Martian. Smiley Tongue I know what I'm trying to say, I just can't say it. Try calling EX and explaining the situation to them, and ask if they can check if your SSN pulls up any accounts with a different name.

Re: Equifax explaination for the computer glitch yesterday. "Weird"

Unfortunately, too many people have to learn the "hard" way - deferments are NOT a good idea. If you ever HAVE to ask for a deferment, always follow up by adding a few extra dollors to your remaining payments. Why? Although the payment itself is added to the end of the loan, the fact that that payment wasn't made on it's original due date throws the whole ammortization table askew. In other words, you ultimately pay more interest on the loan than originally scheduled.
It really makes me mad that loan companies, such as Cap1 do not fully explain this to the customer at the time a deferment is requested. Too many times I took calls from customers who had made timely payments for 6 and 7 years - but oops - got a deferment on an early payment - and don't understand why they still owe more on the car than it's worth.
So please! If you MUST get a deferment (and sometimes  one MUST get one!) on any type of compounding interest loan - add as much as you possibly can to your remaining payments!

Thanks!
I was just referencing the "trigger" the OP listed - Cap one saying that deferments had affected the account.Smiley Wink
