I've been looking for the direct phone number to speak to a CSR at Equifax. Looking through posts, I see MULTIPLE different numbers given. It's kind of scary, b/c I'll be giving all my private info to whoever I reach. Why so many different numbers? How do I know which one is the right one?
You don't - that's a risk you take. Theoretically you could use a reverse phone look-up.
I spoke with a CSR rep at Equifax yesterday as a follow-up to an online update of my personal info. The # is: 866-349-5186. It is an automated system that you have to navigate through before speaking to a CSR.
P.S. If you think a phone discussion makes you nervous, step #2 of an online dispute specifies printing out the dispute summary and faxing a copy of it along with a copy of: driver's license, W2 statement/SS card, and utility bill to a fax # listed on the dispute summary.
Alternatively you can mail in the info - but that delays the process.
