Equifax reporting wrong account types...

Hi!

Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere, I have been unable to rack anything down definitive about it.

Equifax is reporting the vast majority of my accounts as the wrong account type. Student loans are showing up as credit cards and credit cards are showing up as installment loans..... Other installment loans are also being reported as credit cards.

 Should I dispute them all?

Thanks in advance for the help! I do enjoy the Myfico families wisdom on such things.

Re: Equifax reporting wrong account types...

  1. Where are you getting the credit report from?
  2. Disputing positive accounts may force them to get deleted entirely.  Call the lenders and ask why they're reporting inaccurately.

 Hi ABCD2199!

1. Credit Check Total, The Experian Website, Various Fako sites. Though I depend more one the first two than the Fako's

2. I hadnt thought it would be a lender issue as they are reported correctly ont he other 2.

Re: Equifax reporting wrong account types...

Pull your actual reports from EQ itself, not a monitoring site. It could just be an error in translating the report to a monitoring site.

Re: Equifax reporting wrong account types...

On my CCT report, several Equifax accounts are the wrong type. I'll look at my other reports and see how they look.

Re: Equifax reporting wrong account types...

The 3B report I pulled from Experian's Credit Works product looks fine. The two loans home loans(old/new) are both in the Real Estate category on Equifax.

I suggest you pull your report from another place. You can get it straight from Equifax, but don't pay extra for or any attention to the scores. They don't sell a product with FICO scores.

Re: Equifax reporting wrong account types...

But now that I think of it, the Experian 3B that I pulled for DW has empty creditor names on one of the reports, so, I guess YMMV.

Re: Equifax reporting wrong account types...

Thank you every one for your input. I will pull the EQ report in November 1st or sooner. I have a dispute in with them sbout an old closed account, so I will take a peak then. For the most part all three reports are the same, but EQ is 40 points lower than the others. I have no idea why it dropped 40 points and started to look into it. I will keep this thread updated wehen I find out more.

Update

I looked at my EQ rreport through true identity (EQ product from breach) and it does report correctly from there. Thank you all for the help!
