Experian Email Scam?

I do not have an account with Experian.  I never set one up.  My bank used to give me a FICO score for free, I believe through Experian.  After they stopped making it free, I kept getting emails from Experian giving me a user number.  I called Experian and talked to someone there and they said that yes, indeed, that is my Experian Usernumber.  I said I never signed up for Experian and I don't want it.  I asked to be transferred to their Credit Report area where you can ask for a credit report.  I told that person at Experian that I was assigned a Usernumber I didn't want and never signed up for.  She sent me a credit report but she said that there is no Experian Usernumber associated with my name.  I continued receiving emails from "Experian".  I just checked my email and there was an email from Experian saying that someone had accessed my report with all of my data and if it was not me, I should "click this link" to report it.  I did not click the link.  I don't know what to think or who to call.  Experian doesn't seem to have their act together.  I don't know what to do.  Does anyone else have this issue?  It completely freaks me out that Experian said that my account has been accessed and wants me to verify it via email.

Re: Experian Email Scam?

I have an account with Experian and they use your phone number, user name or e-mail as your login (not a usernumber). It could be a phishing attempt (not from Experian). Feel free to post a picture of the e-mail here (with sensitive information blacked out of course) and I'm sure someone here can verify if it's legit or not.

Re: Experian Email Scam?

There seems little doubt that experian has a file on you.

The best way of protecting your data is to go to https://www.experian.com/ and create a free account. This prevents someone else from doing so in your name. You can then freeze your account to prevent access.

Re: Experian Email Scam?

It's mind boogling there's two different responces from Eperian.

"that is my Experian Usernumber" ..."there is no Experian Usernumber associated with my name."

I recall an e mail from Experian from 2021 (which i saved) saying that my account has been updated with a member ID number.
