Hi All,
I was unsure which board to ask this question on but I thought I would try here.
My credit is great, and I was only going to dispute (and remove) an old AU account that I was added to many years ago.
Anyway, once I selected what I wanted to dispute, this message (please see below) came up. I have not had to dispute anything in years, so this message was a surprise. Is this something new for Experian? Has anyone else seen this?
"We cannot process your dispute online. Please contact us below.
It's not uncommon for EX to limit on line disputes for AU accounts. They may have a hard time verifying your identity so they want more information. Or, more commonly, being an AU would limit what they might allow you to dispute, and due to privacy concerns, such as account balances, reported payment information, or incorrect information about the account itself.
You should first try to contact the lender and tell them you want to be removed as an AU. Generally they'll comply, and most lenders will also have it removed from your reports on their own. If they don't remove it you can dispute it with a CRA by simply stating you're not financially responsible for the account and never gave permission to become an AU, and/or you don't want to be associated with the account.
Hi JoeRockHead,
Thank you for responding!
Yes, I'm sure the AU account will be removed within a month or so, since I went ahead and called the phone number they listed to do a phone dispute, and the primary cardholder took care of the other part.
In this case, I was a little more concerned with why they now required me to do the dispute on the phone and not online. I just wondered if it was something new for everyone. In the past, if I did have to dispute anything, doing it online was extremely easy.
Thanks again!
I have never been able to dispute any old AUs off of Experian. TransUnion and Equifax remove them quickly and without issue with a simple online request. Experian simply won't remove them. They aren't really causing any issue, but I just like to have accurate info on our reports.
