I have been unsuccessful at getting Experian to remove 2 SS#s from my file which do not belong to me. I have also been unsuccessful in getting them to remove names which are not mine, even after sending in proof w/ my passport/SS card.
This doesn't even seem like something I should have to fight over, but apparently, I do. Is the FTC my next step with these yahoos?
Are you a victim of fraud??
Going over my report, I don't think so at this point. There are a couple of medical collections that I'm trying to get sorted out if they are actually mine or not, but everything else looks right, as far as I can tell. But...I want to prevent myself from becoming a victim by removing all the erroneous information and can't seem to get them to see that I've had one and only one SS#.
Are you also disputing the collections, or have you in the past?
The reason I ask is because Experian is notorious for labeling someone a "frivolous" disputer if they've already pretended to investigate an earlier dispute. I had a store card that would never update back to $0, and I had to dispute with the CRA's twice (two different balances.) EX refused to investigate the second time, saying that they had already done so, even though it was a different occasion.
As to how the wrong SSN's and names got there, do you have, or have you ever had, any joint accounts or AU accounts? They might have dragged other people's info in.
I haven't disputed them yet, I've been focusing on getting the personal identification stuff corrected first. I had an AU account, but it was taken off awhile back, before I was really paying attention, I'm sorry to say. I'm just wondering why it's taking an act of congress to get them to see that I have one and only one SS# (I've sent photocopies of that with my passport).
Stay on them and make sure to dispute the incorrect information. I was a victim of Experian screwing up my credit report and it resulted in my Chase credit card's limit being slashed from $1K to $300. But I called to remove the addtional name/social from my report and all was good in the world.

Consider an ITS (intent to sue) letter. There's another thread bouncing around here about a similar problem, although it was EQ and TU on that one, if I recall correctly.
Experian has reached god-like stature in its own mind.
