Experian.com credit card recommendations and Discover Card

I have a two fold question.  First,  how accurate are the credit card recommendations that Experian.com makes for you based on your credit score/report?  Any experience with this?

Right now, it is recommending several of the Discover cards for me.  I tried in January of this year for a Discover on my own (before being on Experian.com) and was turned down.  At the time my Experian score was 607(fair).  Now it's 687(good).  According to Experian.com, Discover wants good to exceptional credit scores.  Will Discover give me a second look after turning me down so recently?

I believe it's the same as credit karma meaning it's just marketing and nothing more. However the 80 point increase would definitely help them in changing their minds about you but being on experian's platform wont.

Definitely marketing, use Discover pre-qual site instead.

I get that it's marketing, but it is targeted marketing.  The recommended cards have changed with my improving score.

On a different note, what's the benefit of the Discover pre-qual site over another method?  It still does a credit pull, right?

It's a soft pull. If you're likely to be approved, it will give you the card, or cards.

Those are just advertisements, not to be taken seriously.

Re: Experian.com credit card recommendations and Discover Card

Wow!  What a difference 607 to 687 makes!  I went again and did the pre-qual as suggested.  It said I was approved.  I was hoping for around $2k because I just got my CapitalOne to increase my credit limit to $1k.  In 5-7 days I will have a Discover card with $15k.  This from being turned down in January.  It's exciting and terrifying at the same time.  One of the problems on my report was not having enough credit.  Now I have to be responsible with it!

Thanks!
