Experian put Fraud Alert on all 3 CRAs.

In a dispute I sent to Experian, they said I initiated a Fraud Alert and they sent that alert to the other two agengies. I didn't know this until I was turned down by two credit cards. I've not gotten a reason for being turned down by two credit cards as I only aplied today and I only aplied to these two cards. Could the turn downs be due to the Fraud Alerts?
What next then?

Another question about same. If there is a fraud alert on my behalf at the 3 CRAs, could it be I was turned down for the two credit cards because they couldn't check my credit? and if so, would there be hard pulls showing on my reports?

EX did the same to me when I disputed something. I almost flipped out when I saw an EXTENDED FA for how ever many years it was. I quickly sent them a letter and told them to take it off of there since I was trying to establish credit at that time. Yes, it can cause you to be declined. Not sure about the inqury's though.

Re: Experian put Fraud Alert on all 3 CRAs.

I would like to know this too, I just faxed them back-up to my dispute on Friday AMSmiley Sad stupid bureau won't REMOVE an old debt past SOL or reporting but purchased for whatever reason in 2004, AND they can't even tell me who purchased it.  Just stated it will remain until 2014...that sucker will be 9 years past any reporting time!

Re: Experian put Fraud Alert on all 3 CRAs.

When an initial (90 day) FA is initiated -
You put in a contact phone number - This phone number is included in the FA statement.

A creditor can still pull your report, They MUST verify your identity prior to extending credit.  Many companies may just deny.

When I had my FA - I only applied and opened 1 account (they drilled me with questions for 5 minutes)

Re: Experian put Fraud Alert on all 3 CRAs.

I filed a simple dispute and EQ put a fraud alert on my account. They said that they would notify the other 2 CBs but the never did. When they do this (at least with me) no phone # was listed.

To get it removed you MUST  mail or fax a complint to all CRAs  tell them to remove it. You will need to send proof that it is you....copy D/L  and 2 other ID with proof of address.  can be copy of their CR whice shows your name & address.....utility bill   showing name & address.

Some creditors will notify you by mail that they can not access your account but most will just decline.

Re: Experian put Fraud Alert on all 3 CRAs.

When you dispute an item with the CRA and the reson you give is "not mine", the CRA will issue a fraud alert. When you dispute something, and you want to avoid a fraud alert, give as the reason incomplete information, or something.

Re: Experian put Fraud Alert on all 3 CRAs.

Thank you Timothy and others. I think I initiated this by mistake by clicking a simple check box on an on-line dispute. I forgot about it when I aplied for two credit cards I don't really want. WaMu declined me on the spot....haven't received the letter yet explaining why and in 8 days or so I haven't heard a word from Hooters. Not I fully expect I'm showing two hard pulls where I never had a chance in the first place.
Shame. My FICO scores before this were actually getting to be "normal" or "averageish". Crud.

Re: Experian put Fraud Alert on all 3 CRAs.

I am so glad for this post! My DH can't check any of his reports....it always says that they can't verify his identity.....what do we do now? How do we get the FA off so we can check his credit score? We are trying to buy a house in a year and this has been extremely frustrating for us! Also, does this neg effect his score?
Thanks for the info
