FICO score Jump.

Hi All and Thanks for the great support and encouragement.
I just had a CA delete an account that it reported to TU and EX.  Friday EX score was 558 today 627! 69 point jump over 1 delete Smiley Very Happy.  I hope that the TU score will go up as much, it's 628.  TU still showed as of today I'm thinking early next week it'll drop off. Has anyone compared the difference in score jumps between the CRAs?

Thanks Again!!

Re: FICO score Jump.

The GW letters do work!  Smiley Very Happy I have had 5  successful attempts out of 7 letters sent.
1 came back from Indymac Bank the form letter -I've been fighting with them for over 5 years. If you have a loan with them go somewhere else!  I sold it after a lay off and missed payments but they show it as a foreclosure. Finally did the PFB (2 times still nothing. Been thinking about a personal visit to their Sacramento office. Think they would notice a 6'-5" 260 lb person snooping through files?!? LOL)
1 letter came back from Medical Data Systems  with a "We don't care Deal with it!" Written in red marker over the GW letter. Spoke with the Reg Manager nice guy "We would never do that blah blah I'll personally delete it - 3 months later still there.
Sorry, for the soapbox routine...
I am still waiting to send one to Land Rover-laid off -hard times -gave it back but still shows as  RF last reported Feb 03 - 0 balance. SOL is 6 yrs, I'll let this dog sleep a while longer.Smiley Sad

Thanks again

Re: FICO score Jump.

I don't have a bad FICO score (730); but I am really trying to make it better. There are a couple of credit cards on the report that I don't recognize though! No balance due. But would it help the score to officially close them?
Also, had a couple late payments due to husband's hospitalization for cancer treatment. Any way to do something about those "late " payments that were paid?
Or is it even worth messing with if my score is 730?
Thanks!

Hi, lzoeller, welcome to the forums! In general, you never want to close an account, unless you have a really, really good reason for doing so. Find a post by fused and click on his link to closing CC's (part of his siggy.)

You can always GW (goodwill) a late. Please start by reading Credit Scoring 101 (get comfortable first!) and then move on to Frequently Requested Threads and look for the two GW threads (one is toward the bottom.)

Re: FICO score Jump.

Izoeller,

Based on your post, I would advise against doing (closing CC accounts) anything, without knowing the full implications of that action being considered.

A FICO score of 730 is definitely "Good" , however, the sub-prime mortgage scandal is effecting all financial segments, even FICO scores. It has been that a 720 FICO score would get you the best available rates but, I've recently read articles that that the new 720 is 750. I just think you should be aware of what rumors are going around. If you aren't interested in  mortgage or a new CC then I would ignore it, but be aware.

Next, if there are CC acct. #'s you don't recognize I suggest you do a little digging in your financial files to see if they might be accounts that were closed some time ago. Closed accounts can report for up to 10 years, so these accounts could be helping your scores quite a bit due to their "age". From what I know you can't hurt your score by keeping ,them since there is no balance due, and if you close them it's qiute possible it will hurt your score.

Finally, you said you have a "couple late payments". First, what type of account is it (revolving, mortgage, installment, LOC)? Next, how late, 30-60-90-120 days? Who is the creditor? Are all lates on the same account? It seems to me that your best arguement for requesting a "Goodwill deletion" from them are the facts of your case including your good/long history with them and the circumstances under which the lates occured.

I wish you good luck
