Thanks for all the help ... you guys are great!

I think the only option I have is to dispute the inquiries with the organizations that placed the inquiries on my file. I'll try calling them and see where I get. I doubt after my recent attempts with the CRAs that I'll have any luck with them.

In my original post I reported a problem with CRA Equifax as item No. 2. Anyone have any input on this. These people kill my combined score and I generally have to use a two score average because it's so low with no information the lenders usually just throw it out. I'm perplexed and disgruntle that it's been going on for so long.

Your EQ situation is weird.  Sounds like a database problem or something.  If you have major credit cards that report to all three, I would call them.  they are generally very easy to work with unlike the other two.  Explain that you have a 15+ year credit history but absolutely nothing listed on file with them and according to your creditors the information is being reported.

When you ask ""Can you tell me the permissible purpose of the FACredco Inquiry on 3/12/07?"

They are going to tell you "I don't have access to that information, would you like me to open a dispute"

You say "yes"

Seriously I'm going to try this again with your advice. If it works I'll owe you a couple cold ones on me. Will save me the hassle of making all those dreaded calls. See this is why you ask the experts. Smiley Happy

As for my Equifax report it is weird ... I've fixed it, they broke it, I fixed it again, they broke it again, I fixed it a third time and they messed it up (read: broke it more). I think they have something against me. It's a conspiracy I tell you.

He definitely deserves a few, he knows his stuff.  Do you have any credit monitoring service with Equifax that might be splitting your files?   You don't seem to have a clear case of what others with that problem have but I just wanted to check.

I have no idea why Equifax is doing this to me. I can only think that my personal information block (read: address) is not allowing creditors to post to my account. My address with Equifax keeps reverting back to an address from 13 years ago. Like I said I corrected this once and it seemed to fix the problem, then something happened and it went back to the old address and things started falling off. I fixed the address again with them and within a month it went back. This is my third attempt over a period of about 3 years to fix this. Each time it's the same old send us proof and we'll update it. I'm quite frankly tired of it. I do have monitoring with equifax directly and this is what my summary looks like.

Type of Account Number of Accounts Total Balance of Accounts
Mortgage [A mortgage account is real estate loan.] 0 $0
Installment [An installment loan has a fixed number of payments and the same payment due each month, such as a car loan or student loan.] 1 $0
Revolving [A revolving loan has an amount owed which varies from month to month, like a credit card.] 0 $0
Other 0 $0
Total Accounts 1 $0
Number of Open Accounts 0
Number of Closed Accounts 1
Total Accounts in Good Standing [Accounts in Good Standing are accounts that have always been paid on time and have no history of late payments.] 1
Accounts Currently Past Due [Accounts Currently Past Due are accounts that you have not paid or paid late this month.] 0
Negative Account History [Negative Accounts are accounts that in the past have had late payments. These late payments could have been years ago, but this negative information will stay on your credit report for 7 years.] 0
Inquiries in Last 12 Months [Companies that have requested or viewed your credit information] 4

The one account they have on file is a car loan that has long been paid off. I've verified with my bank that they have the correct address since the loan was through them and they weren't reporting it incorrectly changing my file. They of course have my correct address since they've always been my financial institution. That loan appears on the other two CRAs correctly and all my other creditors (read: major banks, mortgage lenders, auto lenders) have verified that they report to all three but for whatever reason Equifax refuses to accept their monthly reports. Like I said it's frustrating.

On another note I just noticed that AMEX is doing something really weird on my reports. I've had that account for 11 years and it shows the date open as 96 but AMEX is only reporting the last month of history like it's a new account with no aging. So from first glance it looks like a new account and you have to look at the date opened to see there's a problem. I wonder if contacting AMEX will fix this or if it happens to everyone?

More drama ... more drama ... which I feel horrible about, but after all the reading I'm really starting to see how the CRAs are being viewed as there for the creditors not the consumers. They are above reproach and very intimidating to the masses. They seriously need some checks and balances enacted that are more consumer oriented and friendly instead of all this jump through the million hoops we going to give you and then we might consider your request after spending a year reporting inaccurate out-dated incomplete data to your creditors that you can't do anything about.

Re: FICO the word of the day, for some!

Aha you do have monitoring.  You might have pulled too much and split your reports, and the one you keep seeing is of course not the one there with info on it.  Call them tomorrow and tell them that you need someone to merge your file.  Search the boards here for info on split files and merges and see if it sounds like you.  Here is one thread that will show you what I mean:

As for Amex, here is just one of many interesting threads:  http://ficoforums.myfico.com/fico/board/message?board.id=creditcard&message.id=10517

You can dispute it... I think the reason is inaccurate balance reporting which you can add add'l info to.  If you have a split file, the rest of the info might actually be there.  Best to make sure you do or don't need them to merge before you do any incomplete info/date disputes.

Re: FICO the word of the day, for some!

I don't think I have a split file. My inquiries soft and hard are far too low for that. I just recently (read: last week) got equifax online so I could see my report and send in the dispute with my file number. I have pulled two requests from them. The original one and the updated one with my new address corrected. It now shows:

1234 NW MyStreet
Atlanta, GA 30374

I live on the West Coast. It is apparent to me that they entered their own city state zip in the address field.

My credit file is small in comparison to some I've read about. There is no reason I hope they'd find a split and maybe open up a whole new can of worms that I'll spend a year fixing. Gah this is getting more upsetting by the minute. I also don't think Equifax is open on the weekend, but I'll call them on Monday for sure.

Re: FICO the word of the day, for some!

Also in my report from the lender (don't ask how I got it) it shows EFX1 and EFX2. Are there two separate Equifax reports? I've seen others reporting an EFX1 and 2 and just wonder if this means it's a split report? I'm confused.

Re: FICO the word of the day, for some!

Pulling your reports to peek at them is what splits files, not INQs.  Course I hope you don't have a split, but whatever this issue is, I'm sure it's driving you nuts and I hope it gets corrected.

And yeah... seeing an address hundreds of miles away isn't too encouraging.  Smiley Sad

Well sadly Equifax split my reports ... they are supposed to be merging the files. Grrrr what a mess and who knows if it's going to be right when it's done. I give up, these people kill me. - AZQ

One would think by now they would have fixed this issue across the board.  Since they have not and probably won't anytime soon, try to pull less so that it doesn't happen again.  Not fair I know...
