FRAUD ALERT,POLICE REPORT?

Got letter today thanking me for applying for Fidelity Investment rewards Visa Signature card. Declined (of couse i knew that one, my credit ain"t that good yet) Im working on it. Problem is last week i dropped,& "lost" my drivers license, in a "big" city. What to do, i feel someone real shady picked them up, and is attempting to do bad things with them! Im not sure how i got the letter at my home address though. I NEVER applied for this card or any thing else, for awhile, as i am getting util down, and aging my cards. Working on raising fico score. Do i freeze my cra reports, put a fraud alert on them, contact the police department, or call the card company and tell them what has happened? What's a guy to do, to protect themselves? thanks.

Start with Fraud Alerts-

I was a victim of identity theft also and this is wat I did and I believe to be the absolute BEST thing to do.

1. file a police
2. purchase TrueCredit (transunion), which will allow you to lock your transunion report
3. purchase lock control from equifax.com which whill allow you to lock your equifax report
4. send a copy of your police report to experian and they will mail you a code to lock and unlock your report for free.
5. once i sent equifax a copy of my police report they also put an "extended fraud alert" on my report and sent to the other 2 bureaus which included my phone number to b called b4 credit is extended.
6.this fixed everything

hope it helps

Re: FRAUD ALERT,POLICE REPORT?

Timothy, & smooth. I placed fraud alerts on all 3  cra's . Today, i also placed credit "freeze" on TU & EX. Gotta mail in the EQ request, they would not accept it online. So far all this thief is using is my name & address. I called two of the places he tried to open acct. with, and they said as long as no ss no. is used im ok. and no one would ever allow a cc, without a valid ss no.Anything else that happens i can easily prove it aint me now. what else should i be doing, or watching? Thank goodness it wasnt a cc, or other document i lost. a ny more help WANTED. Thanks guys, you saved me, this board rules again. And thanks to HTSU for putting my question in proper forum, so you guys could see it. Thanks hauling!!!
