False Advertisement of Citibank

Anybody have suggestion? I received this invitation from Citibank:

Dear ….

There's a reason you're a Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Visa Signature® Card card member -you appreciate great benefits. So we'd like to invite you to upgrade to the new Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card. with a number of great benefits, including reward nights, the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card is the one card you will want to reach for again and again.

EARN TWO WEEKEND NIGHT certificates,  each good for one weekend night (standard room. double occupancy) at over 3,800 hotels and resorts within the Hilton Worldwide portfolio, after spending $5,000 in eligible purchases within the first 4 months of card membership.

So I upgrated. When I try to collect TWO WEEKEND NIGHT certificates (after  I fulfilled my obligations),  they send me this letter:

Dear.....

We are contacting you regarding your Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve account. Your account was converted from an existing account and is not eligible for the two Free Hilton Night offers.  We apologize for any misinformation that you received. We have added 5,000 goodwill Hilton HHonors Points to your account and they will appear on your statement in one to two billing cycles.

We appreciate your business and each opportunity to serve you.

Is this FALSE Advertisement?

Welcome to the forum

Wow that reads as someone made a mistake and now they are trying to correct it with 5,000 pts

I would contact the EO and see are they willing to standby the offer

Good luck

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Re: False Advertisement of Citibank

Usually PC'ing to another product would void sign up bonuses. They used the word upgrade instead of apply which is very misleading.

Re: False Advertisement of Citibank

Yeah, considering that the targeted e-mail you received specifically mentions your status as an existing cardholder, for them to deny you the benefits promised in that same e-mail because you are an existing cardholder is pretty daft.  Major fail.

Talk to the executive office for sure. They really ought to honor the full letter of that e-mail.

+1

Seems like a fairly specific offer, or which you have met the stated terms.

It is thus a contract.

If the CEO wont stand by it, you can always trot over to small claims court.........

Re: False Advertisement of Citibank

Thank you all for replying, did not anticipate you do that so quickly.

TheConductor, it was not email. It was regular mailing, so I have it in writing on hard copy. I just scanned and pasted into my message.
