False Debt Collection

I just had a debt collection letter mailed to me for a hospital visit. They never sent it off to insurance and/or insurance response time was slow. I asked about collections and they said not to worry. As long as we keep following up it won’t get sent to collections.

Insurance should pay for it but they’ve not submitted it to insurance. Now it’s with a collection agency. I guess this will damage my credit report.

What is the next course of action? I am 100% ok with paying the bill but they’ve not yet done their part. And that’s what we were waiting on.

I’ve never dealt with this. What do I do? Who do I pay?

Note: I never received a notice of a bill due either.

Re: False Debt Collection

I had a medical bill go to collection that I forgot about (I say forgot but I really don’t think they sent a bill) and they never reported anything to my credit report. I paid it and was pleased I  didn’t suffer any credit damage.

Maybe medical collection companies are less likely to report. Here’s hoping, anyway.

Re: False Debt Collection

Under new CRA policy, resulting from a recent settlement agreeing arising from civil action brought by the offices of the AG of several states, if you show that any medical collection is ultimately paid via insurance, then the collection will be removed.
