Fingerhut Bad for Credit?

I was thinking of opening a fingerhut account but I have heard it can damage credit for someone already with good credit. Is that true?

Although just to add, I am thinking instead of an Overstock card.

Re: Fingerhut Bad for Credit?

OP, I never dealt with Fingerhut, but it is my understanding that most people use it as a credit builder. Often times, people with bad credit use it to help them build upwards. As for whether it is bad for someone with good credit, I'm not too sure that is the case. I would think if you handled it as well as anything else on your report, it would do no harm. But maybe someone else knows something I don't and can dismiss that thought.

Re: Fingerhut Bad for Credit?

Fingerhut is to online shopping as Rent-to-own is to having limited, bad or no credit. Fingerhut offers quality products just ridiculously overpriced. If you need to establish or rebuild credit I would say they are an option. Otherwise, I would apply for an Amazon Prime Store Card through Synchrony Bank.

Edit:

After looking at your signature line I see you have Amazon Prime. Your FICO scores are in the Good range. Perhaps you should consider apping for an Amex card that would suit your needs.

Re: Fingerhut Bad for Credit?

I agree with the others; it's not bad for your credit but...

Fingerhut builds their risk into their prices.. They charge a lot for things you can buy elsewhere for much less.

With the cards you have, you should be able to shop nearly anywhere for a lot less money.

Obviously, just my opinion..

Good replies by the others.  We can probably help you better if you were to tell us why you want to apply for yet another credit card, given that you already have fourteen of them.

Re: Fingerhut Bad for Credit?

Well I decided to forget fingerhut. I did get a pop-up for overstock but due to a browser glitch lost it so hopefully will get it back. Mostly I like department store lines due to promo offers and not using my main lines for anything.

I can understand to a degree.

Some of your rewards cards will give you better cash back than some store rewards.

I do have Victoria's Secret & Buckle because I shop there a lot so I get it..

Please be aware the pop-up trick will likely result in a hard pull to your credit.

The last few months the old "shopping cart trick" many are fond of, has ended in a HP.

Have a lovely Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving2.jpg

Re: Fingerhut Bad for Credit?

The addition of a retail card will affect FICO scores the same way as a major card would. However, retail cards hurt the LexisNexis insurance scores used in the determination of rates.
